Saving Money
So now that summer is sneaking up on me and I have all these fabulous things planned to do, turns out I need money to do these things! Weird, I know. So even more than usual the time has come for me to re-evaluate my bills and savings strategies.
I have a bill due in August that is the end of my 18-months no interest special buy plan. This needs to be paid off before the promotinal end date or I will be charged all of the interest from day one. I’m working the hardest on this one right now.
Next up is my credit card with about 15-18 percent interest. This is also my highest credit limit card. This one has been biting me in the behind for awhile now.
Finally is my good interest rate card that is just about maxed. I use this card fairly frequently because of it’s good interest rate but seem to pay it down a little and rack it back up just as quick. I just had the credit limit on this card increased because of it’s rate, this way I will put more charges on this card than my higher card and thus save a bit of money in interest.
My high interest credit card is what I use most often because I recently paid down about half of the balance. And of course it was time for me to get new contacts soon after. I just had my ’service engine’ light come on today, that will probably end up on this card as well.
Right now I am working part-time and putting all my pennies towards these bills.
1. I’ve learned to shop less, (the main reason my cards are so high, plus a trip to Vegas….) this also helps me save on gas as I am not driving from store to store or to other cities to go the mall,
2. Try to save more: as in not spending on things I don’t need including fast food and expensive food in general, I try using all of what I have as in lotion, toothpaste, make-up, etc
3. Instead of buying something to drink at work, I invested in a cute water jug and fill it up with things from home and if that is not enough I fill it up at the water fountain at work. Free and ice cold water!
4. Cooking more often instead of going out to eat, and making extra so it last a few days.
5. I shop used: my car is used, my purse is used, some of my clothes are used. I love thrift stores, like Goodwill and Salvation Army, and truly love places like Plato’s Closet that offer only gently used, stylish brand name clothes. Not that I am a label whore, but some things you find there (like jeans that fit well) you will never see in other thrift stores. I frequent ebay for other things and love a good yard sale.
6. Speaking of college… I re-sell my books that are not for my intended major. Now I have saved a few good books I liked from some of my English classes but otherwise the rest of useless to me and can help some other struggling student save some moolah!
Any ideas on other ways to save, or ways you already use to save!
